As you know, Starkville municipal elections are coming up. Primaries are held on May 2, and the general election is held on June 6.
Candidates need poll watchers. The Legal Leaders' Task Force of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership is training poll watchers from 2 to 5 p.m. on the 23rd of March at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse Annex.
The public is invited. The cost is $15. You may attend by registering online at www.legalleadersseminar.org.
By the way, in case you do not know, Lynn Spruill is running for Mayor of Starkville. She would appreciate your vote in the May 2 primary. There will be no general election for Mayor. All mayoral candidates are registered as democrats.
Likewise, if you live off Lynn Lane, then you live in Ward 2. Sandra Sistrunk, who works in our office as office manager, is running for alderman in Ward 2. There are three candidates in this election, a democrat, a republican and an independent. The general election will make the difference here, and it is on June 6.
We have signs available both for Lynn and Sandra at the Spruill Property Management office and we would love to give you one to put in your yard. Please come by to pick up a sign.
Another of our long term tenants, Nicole Bishop, won the Volunteer Starkville raffle on the 18th! Spruill Property Management rocks, and so do our tenants!
One of our long-time tenants, Cindy Brown, won the 2nd day of the Volunteer Starkville raffle! See, there really are benefits to staying with us.
As landlords, we try to reward you for your loyalty to us. For example, if you are a long term tenant, you may have an opportunity to win one of the gifts being provided by Volunteer Starkville's Valentine's Raffle. We have purchased 20 tickets -- one for each of our 20 longest term tenants. The raffle begins today and winners are posted everyday on www.volunteerstarkville.org as well as on the Volunteer Starkville Facebook page. Watch to see if you or your neighbor will win!
We welcome you back from Thanksgiving.
The Starkville Christmas Parade, formerly scheduled for Monday evening, November 28, was cancelled due to rain. We will let you know when it is rescheduled.
Remember that we are running 2 contests through Friday the 16th of December: our Christmas door decoration contest and our animal Christmas costume contest. Take a look back to a post before Thanksgiving for all the details of these contests.
Of course, Dak didn't do it all by himself; the team helped. But we are really proud of our former tenant, and we are so proud of him we wanted Donna to have a chance to see him in his "rookie" year at Dallas. Great game, great victory, great tenant, GREAT EMPLOYEE. We love you, Donna.
Spruill Property Management wants to wish our community members a great Thanksgiving holiday weekend. We hope you enjoy the week with family and friends, too much food, and too much football.
Begin thinking about the Christmas season, which is almost upon us. Spruill Property Management is sponsoring two (2) contests over the run-up to Christmas. If you win one of our contests, you will be entitled to a discount on your January rent.
CONTEST ONE: Decorate your door! Beginning the 25th of November, tenants of any Spruill property can enter the Christmas door decorating contest. Judging will occur on December 16 and the winner will be announced on our Spruill Property Management Facebook page on the 17th. If you win, you will have a $25 credit when you come in to pay your January 2017 rent.
CONTEST TWO: Deck your dog (or cat, or guinea pig) for the season! As a pet friendly community, we know that our tenants have many special 4-legged members of their families. We encourage you to dress your animal in his or her holiday finest holiday dress and upload his or her photo on the Spruill Property Management Facebook page. Be sure to tag the photo with TENANT NAME and PET NAME. You may begin loading your 4-legged family member pics on the 25th of November. By 5 p.m. on December 16, we will close out the competition, so be sure to upload your photo by then. The winner will be announced on our Spruill Property Management Facebook on the 17th. If your pet wins, you will have a $25 credit when you come in to pay your January 2017 rent.
Even if you do not enter one of these contests, be sure to watch our Facebook page for interesting door decorations (we'll post those) as well as decked out dogs. And "friend" us on Facebook.
Our doors will be closed from Tuesday, November 22 at 5 p.m. until Monday, November 28 at 9 a.m.
Tuesday is election day. Polls in Mississippi are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you do not know where to vote, you can visit http://www.oktibbehacountyms.org/?q=node/336.
Here's an easy way to get $10 off your December rent: come in on election day before 5 p.m. wearing your "I Voted" sticker and we will give you a $10 credit toward your December rent. It's that easy!
Also a head's up for the end of the week: Friday, November 11, is Veterans Day. It is an official United States public holiday that is observed annually on November 11. The nation sets it aside to honor all our military veterans. Some of our younger tenants may not know the significance of November 11, the date chosen as Veterans Day. World War I formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. At that time our "armistice" with Germany went into effect. In 1926, the US Congress adopted a resolution requesting then president, Calvin Coolidge, to issue an annual proclamation calling for the Observance of November 11 with appropriate ceremony. He did, and in 1938 it was made a federal holiday by Congress (52 Stat. 351, 5 US Code, Sec. 87a). Thus, from 1918 until the holiday was renamed in 1954, it was observed as Armistice Day.
Congress ordered the day "...to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to therefore be celebrated and known as Armistice Day." Its new name, Veterans Day, incorporates the desire for world peace with the appreciation of all of our armed forces veterans in all American wars or police actions.
Also remember that there will be no trash pick-up on Friday, so do not put your trash out. The post office and all banks will be closed, also.
